Foyer Richelieu Long-Term Care and Hospice Niagara is a new three-storey care facility in Welland, Ontario that integrates 128 long-term care beds and a 10-bed hospice within a single, purpose-built structure. The building is organized around four 32-bed resident home areas based on the maisonnée household model, each incorporating living and dining spaces, activity areas, decentralized care stations, and access to outdoor terraces. The hospice component is designed to provide a more private and supportive environment, with dedicated suites and family-oriented spaces including lounges and access to landscaped outdoor areas, allowing both care models to operate cohesively while maintaining distinct functional identities.
In addition to resident and clinical accommodations, the facility includes a range of community-focused spaces such as a chapel, multipurpose rooms, celebration areas, and a bistro, supporting resident wellbeing and family engagement. The building incorporates durable, healthcare-grade materials and high-performance building systems, including efficient mechanical and electrical infrastructure, energy recovery systems, LED lighting, and a centralized building automation system to support long-term operational performance. Thoughtful integration of building systems, environmental controls, and resilient construction ensures the facility provides a safe, efficient, and dignified environment for long-term and palliative care within the Niagara region.
