Cornell Secondary School, also known as Bill Hogarth Secondary School, is a new three-storey, 196,000-square-foot secondary school in Markham, Ontario, designed to support a comprehensive range of academic and technical programming. The facility is organized into two primary zones, separating classroom-based learning environments from larger shared amenities such as the gymnasium, cafeteria, and performance spaces. This layout enhances functionality while promoting a clear and efficient flow throughout the building. The design emphasizes openness and natural light, creating bright, welcoming circulation areas that foster collaboration, engagement, and a positive learning environment for students and staff.
The school accommodates a diverse curriculum through a wide range of specialized instructional spaces, including wood and automotive workshops, art and music studios, computer technology labs, and food services facilities. High-quality, durable materials were used throughout, including aluminum paneling, curtain wall glazing, stone, brick, and wood, contributing to a modern and enduring architectural expression. The project also included extensive site development, with parking areas, pedestrian pathways, and outdoor learning and recreation spaces that support both daily use and community interaction. Mechanical and electrical systems were designed with a focus on performance, sustainability, and long-term reliability, resulting in a high-performing educational facility built to serve future generations.
