Completed in celebration of Bloor Collegiate Institute’s 100th anniversary, the new four-storey, 160,000 square foot facility with an additional level below grade marks a bold new chapter for both Bloor CI and ALPHA II Alternative School. The reimagined campus integrates a wide range of academic and creative learning spaces, including automotive and woodworking shops, specialized science and biology laboratories, a triple gymnasium, and expansive learning commons anchored by a grand atrium that encourages student interaction and collaboration. Exterior program areas include landscaped learning zones, full-size basketball courts, and extensive site works tying into adjacent municipal sidewalks and roadways. Below grade, the facility houses a 40-vehicle parking garage, a cistern holding tank, and dedicated mechanical, electrical, and storage spaces. Architecturally, the building’s warm material palette of masonry, curtain wall, and metal panels harmonizes with the surrounding urban context, while the dramatic north entrance canopy and double-height Learning Commons along Bloor Street express a strong civic identity. Inside, the student-focused design emphasizes natural light, flexibility, and community through spaces such as a multi-use cafetorium, amphitheater seating, and self-directed learning environments for ALPHA II students. Together, these elements create a vibrant, inclusive educational setting that supports both academic excellence and creative exploration.
