Burnhamthorpe Community Centre is a comprehensive addition and renovation of an existing municipal recreation facility, transforming a long-standing community asset into a modern, integrated hub that supports a wide range of recreational and social programming. The project introduced a new aquatic centre featuring a 25-metre lap pool and warm water therapy pool, alongside a contemporary fitness centre, multipurpose program spaces, administrative areas, and enhanced common areas that improve circulation and user experience. Renovations to the existing facility focused on modernizing the arena and associated support spaces, improving accessibility, upgrading finishes, and aligning the older building with the performance and functionality of the new addition.

Sustainability was a central component of the redevelopment, with the facility designed in accordance with the City of Mississauga Corporate Green Building Standard. High-performance building envelope systems, including continuous air barriers, enhanced insulation, and high-efficiency glazing, reduce energy demand and improve occupant comfort. A heat recovery system captures waste heat from the arena refrigeration plant and redirects it to preheat pool water, significantly improving overall energy efficiency. Additional features include rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient lighting systems with automated controls, advanced building automation, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Together, these strategies deliver a cohesive, accessible, and environmentally responsible recreation facility designed for long-term durability and performance.
